For the first 30 minutes, my family and I were the only ones there. The Native Choice tour group has exclusive rights to bring people to this resort, so they never have more than 40 or so guests there at a time. My kids especially enjoyed the hibiscus tea. Once there, my family had an amazing meal of tacos and chips along with an open bar, where the attentive staff made a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The place was so quiet that a spider monkey climbed down from his tree to have a look.Īfter spending about an hour at Chacchoben, we took our (very nice and clean) bus from Chacchoben to a private resort on Bacalar Lagoon. My family had the amazing experience of being able to experience such a place with an incredibly knowledgeable guide and have the place nearly to ourselves. He first took us to the Chacchoben ruins, which we reached before the crowds of tourists who took tours through the cruise lines. My family arrived quickly at the Native Choice offices and Joel, our tour guide, took us out in our own bus since to start the tour. The port is designed to make it confusing to leave the port. I had done considerable research about where we were walking to before the cruise, which made it much easier. They should generally be able to give you some time after the tour to look around the port area, if you wish. I would highly recommend that you get off the boat as soon as possible and walk directly to the Native Choice offices. We did the Chacchoben Extreme Tour, which I would highly recommend. We found Native Choice for our tour and the experience exceeded our expectations. On this cruise, we didn't see any favorably-reviewed tours through the cruise line and did some research on our own. Please consider the total time to walk from your cruise to the excursion office is about 15 minutes.So, generally when my family does cruises, we do our tours through the cruise line. Your tour will depart one hour after your cruise docks, starting from the conveniently located Plaza Las Fuentes, just outside the Port.
